Updated New York Quick Reference Chart Now Available

We’re happy to announce that our New York Quick Reference Chart has been fully revised and is now available with updates, current as of July 2016.  As many of you know, the last full revision of the chart was published in 2011, as Appendix A of the 5th edition of “Defending Immigrants in New York.”

There have been significant changes in the law in the last five years. The revised chart reflects changes in the analysis of individual offenses and suggests strategies based on the most recent case law, including Moncrieffe,Descamps, Silva-Trevino II, and Mathis.

There has also been significant growth in the community of lawyers and advocates working to defend immigrants. In New York, state and local governments, along with non-profit organizations serving immigrants, have become pioneers in the crimmigration field. Our defense community remains at the cutting edge of ensuring the rights of immigrants under Padilla. This much needed investment is thanks, in large part, to many of you.

At IDP, the growth and investment are inspiring us to update our resources more frequently, to keep pace with ongoing litigation and creative strategies. It is essential that attorneys have accurate and up-to-date starting-point resources, so they can provide high quality legal services to their clients in this complicated area of law. In order to serve this need, we are moving to a yearly subscription-based service for the New York Quick Reference Chart.

We have historically distributed this resource without charge. However, frequently-changing law requires time-intensive updates to maintain the chart’s utility.  The only way for us to do this is to spread the cost of the chart through a subscription service. Think of it as crowdfunding for a useful resource! Many other resources will remain publicly available on our website.

Organizations and firms subscribing to the digital New York Quick Reference Chart will receive access to the 2016 chart with information about the possible immigration consequences of specific, commonly charged New York offenses. Subscribers will receive practice notes about significant new relevant legal developments. And the chart will be updated each fall, at which time subscribers can renew their subscription at a discount, to ensure continued access to the most up-to-date information. The next anticipated update to the entire chart will be in the fall of 2017.

We appreciate your support. The subscription service will help to partially offset the significant cost of updating this essential resource, ensuring that we can provide practitioners with yearly updates going forward.
